It's that time of year... Parent teacher conferences are next week, September 30 and October 1st. Followed by Fall break from October 5-16.

Spelling Words for week of September 28
Students have requested a fun spelling list with students names. Due to this I will not be posting the list on my website. However, on Monday they will write the names in their planner and each worksheet will have the names listed.
Spelling daily HOMEWORK:
Monday-Alphabetical Order
Tuesday-word search
Wednesday-Correct Spelling
Thursday-Snake boxes (the 1st letter will be lowercase)
A trick for this is to write the name and then draw boxes around each letter. Compare your boxes to the boxes on the paper.

Daily Topics-Sentence Types
Monday-Review different sentence types, define
1) simple sentence: group of words that has one subject, one predicate (verb), and shares one complete thought.
2) compound: sentence made of two simple sentences (complete thoughts) joined together by a comma and a connecting word like and, but, or so.
3) complex: A sentence that mixes one complete thought (independent clause) with an incomplete thought (dependent clause) that starts with a helper word like because, when, or if.
4) fragment: An incomplete sentence that is missing a subject, a predicate, or does not make sense on its own. It is just a piece of a sentence.
5) run on:A mistake where two complete sentences are smashed together without the correct punctuation or connecting words to separate them.

Math homework will not be assigned this week. However, I will be teaching the kids new games each day. See if they can teach you how to play

Grading, Test, and Work Policies
Assessments- 50%
Unit assessments will happen at the end of each unit, with a total of 11 or 12 depending of the class. Retakes are an option, I will average the score of the 2 tests. Retakes must be done with in 5 school days of the original test day.
Participation- 15%
Based on engagement, preparation and respectful behavior. Students will be expected to participate in classroom discussions, presentations and debates.
Homework/Classwork- 35%
Student's need to complete digital and traditional work. Late work will be accepted up to the end of the unit for which it was assigned. 1st day late automatically deduct 10%, there will be a 50% deduction if turned after the Friday of the week it was assigned. Once the unit ends it will be a 0.
Extra Credit will be available upon request. Requests must be made with enough time before the end-of-quarter grading deadline, no less than 2 weeks before deadline. Assignments will be based on specific academic topics.
