Spelling Words for week of August 17 educate fascinate imitate advertise supervise criticize impose corrode cyclone envelope contribute ridicule distribute module episode cooperate participate survive acquire recognize
We are working on vowel consonant e (Vce). To help your child practice these spelling words make sure they break them down into syllables and then sound out each individual syllable. Also remind them that the silent e at the end of a word.
Students will NOT have spelling packets. We will have a daily spelling homework assignment. Monday through Thursday your child will have a spelling worksheet to complete, it will be due the following day.

Reading for Week of Aug. 17 Daily Topics-What can living in space teach us about our bodies? Unit 1 Week 3
Monday-Everyday space technology Tuesday-Story "Twins in Space" and Vocabulary 1) identical-appearing to be exactly the same 2) radiation-energy that travels in waves outward from a sources, such as the sun 3) duplicate-exactly the same as another 4) comparison-examination of things to see how they are similar 5) DNA-substance in cells that determines the characteristics of living things 6) chromosomes-part of DNA in cells that contains the genes Wednesday-Text structure Thursday-Analyze details Friday-Test
HOMEWORK: Read assigned passage daily. This is to build fluency and confidence. They will take a short quiz on what the passage is about on Friday. We will also rotate through reading the passage to an aide or teacher, we don't have enough time to have everyone read every Friday so it will be a rotation system. They will not know how reads which week, be sure to read the passage everyday.

Grading, Test, and Work Policies Assessments- 40% Unit assessments will happen at the end of each unit, with a total of 11 or 12 depending of the class. Retakes are an option, I will average the score of the 2 tests. Retakes must be done with in 5 school days of the original test day.
Participation- 30% Based on engagement, preparation and respectful behavior. Students will be expected to participate in classroom discussions, presentations and debates.
Homework/Classwork- 30% Student's need to complete digital and traditional work. Late work will be accepted up to the end of the unit for which it was assigned. 1st day late automatically deduct 10%, there will be a 50% deduction if turned after the Friday of the week it was assigned. Once the unit ends it will be a 0.
Extra Credit will be available upon request. Requests must be made with enough time before the end-of-quarter grading deadline, no less than 2 weeks before deadline. Assignments will be based on specific academic topics.
