Week of 11/28-12/02

HOMEWORK

Spelling packet- 5 pages. Should take 5-10 minutes of focused work daily. This will be sent home Monday 11/28, and due Friday 12/02 (recommend doing 1 page per day. Just a reminder- the important part of the spelling homework is to practice the spelling. If your child just writes their spelling words every day and turns that in, they will still receive full credit for spelling homework).

Read 20 minutes each day (this helps most when children read out loud to someone). Students may also do Prodigy ELA. Reading this week’s story (Tops and Bottoms) will also help prepare your student for this week’s work and test. This week’s Phonics and Grammar lesson slides are posted in google classroom for extra review.

Daily Math Page- sent home each day and due the next day. Should take no more than 30 minutes of focused work daily. Starting Monday 11/28, this will be chapter 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 7.4 homework . (Students may also do extra review on bigideasmath.com. Prodigy math is a great resource, and I would also recommend practicing basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts.)

Extra credit options- Students can write a story, song, or poem using their spelling words for extra credit in spelling. Students can write in a daily journal and turn in for extra credit in writing (needs to have correct spelling, punctuation, capitals and sentences that make sense). Students who fail portions of the reading test can do reading extra credit. I also sent a math extra credit packet this week.

Let Me Introduce Myself
My name is Jasie Sherwood, and I am thrilled to be teaching 3rd grade at Solomon Elementary this year. I can't wait to get to know and work with your student. I believe students reach their highest potential when all who care about them work together to give their support, so please feel free to reach out to me at any time.

This is my 7th year teaching, and my 8th year living in Graham County. I earned my BA through ASU, and my master's through NAU. I have one child of my own, and he is excited to be attending 6th grade here at Solomon Elementary. I love music, hanging out on the mountain, and spending time with family. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is helping a child be excited about learning, and helping them to realize their own unique potential.
